The Sioux City Camera Club will be this year's hosts for the 2024 N4C Fall Convention titled "Think, Imagine, Create in Siouxland". The Sioux City Camera Club's Convention Planning Committee has organized an exciting and informative 3-day convention that will offer participants a wide range of programs and activities. This convention, which is held in conjunction with the North Central Camera Club Council (N4C), will provide an opportunity for photographers of all levels to come together, network, and learn from experts in the field.
The convention will be held at the beautiful Ponca State Park conference center in Ponca, Nebraska, 25 miles Northwest of Sioux City, Iowa. This conference center offers a variety of facilities and amenities that will make our convention a comfortable and enjoyable experience.
Ponca State Park is a stunning natural forested paradise. With its pristine landscapes, diverse wildlife, and breathtaking views, this park offers a truly enchanting experience for visitors of all ages. It's one of Nebraska's most visited state parks, and is popular for it's
forested hills, scenic vistas, and great wildlife watching. Visitors have the chance to witness a wide variety of creatures in their natural habitat. The park is home to a variety of bird species, including bald eagles, wild turkeys, and waterfowl. You might also catch a glimpse of deer, bobcat, and other mammals roaming through the park.

Lodging: All the cabins at Ponca State Park are currently booked, many by N4C attendees who booked early. Other lodging accommodations available nearby include Airbnb and Vrbo rentals. If your looking for a real experience you can rent a tree house in South Sioux City, NE. In Sioux City, Iowa, 33 minutes from Ponca State Park, there are numerous hotels and other accommodations available as well. Bookings.com is one of the highest rated online hotel booking sites. Camping: Ponca State Park has plenty of campsites that are available for RVr's. Campgrounds offer Electric, Electric plus, and Basic camping. They include modern restrooms, showers, picnic tables, fire pits, nearby water spigots (not hookups), a dump and fill station and playground. What's Included: Your registration fee includes the Thursday evening Meet and Eat Buffet at Cedar Hills Bar & Grill, Ponca, NE. plus all program sessions, field trips and transportation on select field trips in a 20 passenger luxury limo van. Attendees with mobility issues will be given priority. A daily park entrance fee is charged and is included in your
registration. Tell the guard at the gate you are with the Camera Club Convention and you will be directed to the conference center where you will receive your park entrance permit.
What's Not Included: Except for Thursday's Meet and Eat Buffet, other meals and lodging are not included in the registration fee.

Field Trip Summaries
Freedom Park, South Sioux City, Nebraska - Freedom Park in South Sioux City, Nebraska, is a photographer's paradise. The
cornerstone of the park is the half-scale replica of the Washington, D.C. Vietnam War Memorial Wall. It stands as a tribute to the men and women who served during the Vietnam War. While there you will be able to witness a rifle salute to those that served and paid the ultimate sacrifice. Accompanying the Vietnam War Memorial Wall is a dedicated museum that provides a comprehensive overview of the Vietnam War and its impact on society. Freedom Park is not just about the Vietnam War Memorial Wall and Museum; it also offers a picturesque backdrop for outdoor photography. The park encompasses a serene and well-maintained landscape, with lush green lawns and mature trees. Photographers will have the opportunity capture both the
historical significance and the beauty of the park.
Woodbury County Courthouse, Sioux City, Iowa - The Woodbury County Courthouse is a
remarkable architectural landmark that offers a unique backdrop for photographers. It is widely
recognized for its outstanding architectural style. Built in the late 1800s, the courthouse showcases a blend of Neo-Classical and Romanesque influences. The facade is adorned with intricate columns, intricate carvings, and ornate details, creating a visually stunning effect. With its distinctive design and historical importance, this courthouse provides opportunities for capturing stunning images that present a unique artistic perspective.
Outdoor Activities in the Park - Tour unique sites throughout the park with one of the park's naturalists. The park will furnish a
12 passenger van (those with mobility issues will be given priority). Once the van is full all others will car pool. Activities include muzzleloader shooting, archery and hatchet throwing. Other activities, on your own, include hiking trails, convention center museum, historical sculpture tower, 325 year old oak tree, kayaking and canoeing the Missouri River (bring your own water craft), and photographing song birds and water fowl from 2 bird blinds.
Trinity Heights Queen of Peace Shrine - The Trinity Heights Queen of Peace Shrine in Sioux City, Iowa is a
mesmerizing destination that boasts an exquisitely manicured landscape, adorned with larger-than-life statues that exude grandeur and grace. The evening and night hour timing of this trip provides numerous photography opportunities, for capturing the beauty and spiritual energy of this remarkable place. When the sun begins it's descent, the warm hues cast a golden glow over the shrines, creating a picturesque setting for photography. As the evening progresses and the night sky transitions into twilight, The shrines illuminated features against the darkening sky make for a dramatic and enchanting scene. Stargazing Omaha Astronomical Society - The Omaha Astronomical Society will be bringing their telescopes and planetary
talk to the Conference Center. This program will commence at the conference center, featuring insights into the celestial sky during autumn and a dProgramsiscussion on astronomical photography. As night falls, attendees will journey to a designated dark sky area within the park to observe planets and stars through the society's telescopes. Participants are encouraged to bring tripods and long lenses for potential night photography, weather permitting. Furthermore, following the banquet on Saturday night, photographers may have the chance to revisit the telescope location for additional celestial viewing and photography, if the opportunity is available.
Winnebago Indian Reservation Tour - The Winnebago Indian Reservation, located in Winnebago, Nebraska, offers a range of photography opportunities for photographers of all levels. The reservation is home to a diverse range of landscapes, wildlife,
and cultural sites that provide a captivating backdrop for capturing stunning images. One of the must-see photography spots you will see is Clans Sculpture Garden. This outdoor sculpture garden showcases the work of renowned Native American artist, Jim Denomie, and is adorned with intricate bronze sculptures depicting various aspects of Native American culture and history. The garden provides a serene and tranquil environment for photographers to capture the beauty and essence of Native American art. Another attraction for photographers we will visit is the Angel Decora Museum and Cultural Center. Cornelius O'Connor Historic Home & Museum - The Cornelius O'Connor House and Museum near Homer, Nebraska is a charming historic house that offers great opportunities for photography. The house itself is a
beautiful example of Victorian architecture, and the surrounding grounds are well-maintained and full of picturesque spots including a vintage schoolhouse and large barn museum. Our hosts will be dressed in pioneer attire for some great portrait opportunities. Downtown Ponca Tour - Downtown Ponca, Nebraska offers a charming and picturesque setting for photography enthusiasts and tourists alike. The historic main street is lined with beautiful old
buildings that have been
lovingly preserved, providing a perfect backdrop for capturing vintage vibes. Additionally, the town's quaint shops, local restaurants, and vibrant community events create ample chances for candid and lively shots. The Ponca Historic District is a charming area with several points of interest. Don Poggensee "58 Years of Recording Images"
Don Poggensee is a renowned worldwide photographer who has been capturing stunning images for more than 58 years. Throughout his illustrious career, he has achieved incredible success and recognition, with his work featured in over 100 magazines, including National Geographic. In addition, his work has been included in more than 38 books, and he has collaborated on numerous photography projects.
One of the most remarkable aspects of Don's career is his longevity and dedication to his craft. He has continued to pursue his passion and evolve as an artist, even into his 80s. This unwavering commitment has resulted in an impressive body of work that showcases the immense talent and creativity of this remarkable photographer.
In addition to his photography career, Don has also been actively involved in organizing and leading photography tours to various destinations, including Fairbanks, Alaska, where he has organized trips to the Northern Lights and Polar Bears. These tours not only provide participants with the opportunity to explore and capture these incredible natural wonders but also offer guidance and expertise from a seasoned professional.
Carl Hardy "Converting Images into Dynamic Altered Reality"
Carl Hardy is a professional photographer and chairman of the 2024 N4C Fall Convention in Sioux City. With a passion for photography spanning over 38 years, Carl has become an integral part of the Sioux City Camera Club, the North Central Camera Club Council, and PSA (Photographic Society of America).
Carl is a 76-year-old male who retired with a D.J. and Photography business called Good Times Entertainment Dynamic Images. He majored in Journalism/Photography at West Texas State University in the early 1970's and studied special effect photography at Texas Tech University.
Carl has been a member of the Sioux City Camera Club since 1985 and has served as President from 1986 to 1988, and again President in 2023 and 2024. In addition to his administrative duties, Carl has been editor of the Sioux City Scope (SCCC Newsletter) for over 36 years.
Carl enjoys a wide range of photographic genres, but he is particularly interested in altered reality photography. He enjoys spending time with his loved ones, photography, good times, a few beers, the Catholic Church, music, aquariums, baseball, and peach pie.
Carl's dedication and passion for photography have earned him recognition and respect in the photography community. His contributions to the Sioux City Camera Club and the upcoming N4C Fall Convention will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact.
Gary Gilbert "Light Painting and Nothing to Photograph"
Gary Gilbert is a retired International Representative with the electrical industry. Gary's proudest accomplishment is his 58-year marriage to his best friend, Peg. Together, they have shared countless memories and created a loving and supportive home.
Photography has been a lifelong passion for Gary. He started his journey in 1960 when he purchased his first Nikon camera. Today, Gary's camera collection includes the Nikon's D850, Zf, and Z8. These advanced models allow him to capture stunning images with incredible detail and resolution.
Gary's main photography interests include light painting, landscapes, macro, bird and flower photography. He loves the vibrant colors and intricate details of each subject, and aims to share his appreciation for the beauty that surrounds us through his photographs.
In addition to photography, Gary enjoys flower gardening and traveling with his wife, Peg. These two hobbies provide him with the opportunity to capture unique moments and create lasting memories.
Mitch Keller "Panorama Photography"
Mitch Keller is a teaching faculty member in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. When he's not teaching math and advising students, he loves sharing his travel experiences through photography. He also enjoys using his teaching skills to educate others about photography.
Mitch has held the positions of Treasurer at the Rockbridge Camera Club and President of the Sioux City Camera Club. His work has been featured in numerous juried exhibitions, and he has had solo exhibitions of his photographs at the Rockbridge Camera Club in Virginia and at Morningside University's Eppley Art Gallery.
Dr. Michael White "Shooting and Editing Video"
Dr. Michael White teaches television and video production, electronic media, and other mass communication courses at Wayne State College. White also oversees the Hot Attic Film Studios, the student video, and the short film production studio.
Prior to his doctorate, White’s professional experience included working in both television news and advertising production as an award-winning producer. He has spoken regularly on both marketing and public relations at various conventions in a variety of industries. White is himself an active independent filmmaker. This includes various short and feature length films which garnered both regional and national acclaim.
In 2023, White received the Iowa Motion Picture Doug Hawley Presidents Award for Lifetime Achievement in Film. He has since joined the IMPA board Education and Professional Development committee.
White has been accepted into to UCLA School of Theater, Film &d Television Professional Program in Screenwriting which he will complete in Spring of 2025. On campus, he is the advisor to the Student Media Club and the organizer of the Wildcat Spirit Film Festival.
Wendy Gerlach "The Art of Smartphone Photography"
Wendy Gerlach is a passionate photographer who has dedicated herself to capturing the beauty of the world using only her cell phone. Her exceptional work caught the attention of Essential Health in Fargo, North Dakota leading to a commission to provide 64 canvas prints for display in the cardiology departments of two locations.
Due to the growing interest in her unique approach to cell phone photography, Wendy started offering "Picture Perfect" Cell Phone Photography Workshop Intensives. Her workshops have attracted over 200 students, teaching them to maximize the potential of their cell phone cameras.

Greg Perez "The Dynamics of 3D Photography"
My passion for photography started at the age of 16, sparking a lifelong love for capturing moments through the lens. In the vibrant era of the 80s, I stumbled upon the fascinating world of 3D photography, opening up a whole new dimension of artistic expression.
A few years back, I had the opportunity to attend a convention organized by the National Stereoscopic Association, where I was introduced to the captivating realm of 360 photography, adding another layer of depth to my photographic journey.
Originally hailing from Florida, I spent many fulfilling years in Tacoma, Washington, before eventually settling down with my family near El Dorado, Kansas. Now, I am actively involved as a member of the Wichita Area Camera Club, constantly seeking new inspiration and sharing my passion with fellow photography enthusiasts.
